The Revolution Will Not Be Web Serialized

So, something revolutionary has been introduced into my life, and that thing is Piperka.

People who have known me for a long length of time know that I used to be quite an avid webcomic reader. However, due to a series of unfortunate events (growing up, getting busier, going to college, my computer getting stolen, waka waka waka) I gradually stopped reading them until the only two comics I even sporadically read were xkcd and a softer world. Over the summer, I found a few good webcomics, and started reading them, mostly from the beginning. To check to see if there were updates, I’d do the normal thing and select one or more from my bookmarks.

Thanks to this amazing tutorial by the ever talented Jisuk (it’s not name dropping if the dude’s legitimately awesome, is it?), I can now view the webcomics I read in a logical fashion. And I don’t have to make sure I bookmark them on my netbook as well as my desktop. Totally excellent.

If you took the time to actually read the tutorial I linked above, you probably saw the comic used as an example was Hanna Is Not A Boy’s Name. I read it, and it really reminded me of the feeling I had that my vampire novel (from two years ago, now) really would have been better if it was written as a comic. So, I’m planning to start work on that as soon as Nano is over. Even if I suck at drawing. Woop the woop. More details will be forthcoming.

In the meantime, if you haven’t yet read Questionable Content, go do so. Immediately.

I’m trying out this new Flock Browser, and so far it’s pretty spiffy. The premise is a browser that’s focused on social media. Still working on it, so we’ll see how much I like it in the future.

Chuck Norris Saves Lives.. er.. Bakeries

So, I haven’t posted on here in a while (around here we have this funny little tradition we like to call “finals”), but this story was too amazing to pass up.

Chuck Norris protects baker

You don't screw around with Chuck Norris

Store bosses have seen off burglars by placing a life-sized photo of Hollywood action star Chuck Norris in the window.

The posh bakery shop in Split, Croatia, had been broken into almost every week until they put up the poster of the karate champ with a sign saying: “This shop is under the protection of Chuck Norris.”

Now the bakery hasn’t had a single burglary for more than a month.

Sales assistant Mirna Kovac said: “To be honest we just started it as a joke but it really has worked. Thieves haven’t been anywhere near us for ages. People seem to respect him.

“Everyone around here has seen his films and he’s quite a popular character, perhaps even among criminals, so they’ve decided to leave us alone.”

She added though: “We have had a few customers come in and ask us whether they can get Chuck’s autograph. They really believe he is sitting in our storeroom out the back ready to pounce on any burglars.”

Baptism, shoes and vacation

First interesting bit of news I’d like to discuss: In Britain people are getting “de-baptized.” I find this actually sort of humorous. I understand that some people don’t believe in God anymore, but I’m unsure as to why it’s a huge deal if you were baptized as a kid. Most people would understand. But what gets me is this:

Michael Evans, 66, branded baptising children as “a form of child abuse” — and said that when he complained to the church where he was christened he was told to contact the European Court of Human Rights.

How, in any way, is sharing your faith with your children child abuse? Yes, we get it, you don’t go to church anymore, but how has this scarred you for life? Now I’m personally against child baptism, but that’s beside the point. This just trivializes actual abuse in a lame attempt to complain about what they wish hadn’t happened to them. Stuff you don’t like happens all the time. It’s called life, not abuse.

Popcrunch posted a list of creepy TV characters, which in retrospect I agree with (at least for the shows I watched). Although at the time I watched these shows, these were the characters I liked. Except the last one. He was always creepy to me.

And now on to things about me.

I want these. I can’t see paying $100+ for a pair of shoes, but I want them so hard it sort of hurts my heart.

I am still addicted to This Is Why You’re Fat, but I think we have a winner here.

I went to California last week, and posted some pictures to my new Flickr account. I’ll be posting some photos of the ocean within the next few days.

Also, comments make me a very happy person. A happy person indeed.

Make your own fonts

I found this nifty site to make your own fonts: Free Fonts Generator. Instead of doing what I ought to be doing today (homework), I ended up making my own font (which I just realized I shouldn’t post because it has my signature in it. I’ll post a different one soon). I think it would be awesome to see other people’s handwriting as fonts, so do it! It only takes about 15 minutes at the most, and you get this awesome outcome.
