First interesting bit of news I’d like to discuss: In Britain people are getting “de-baptized.” I find this actually sort of humorous. I understand that some people don’t believe in God anymore, but I’m unsure as to why it’s a huge deal if you were baptized as a kid. Most people would understand. But what gets me is this:

Michael Evans, 66, branded baptising children as “a form of child abuse” — and said that when he complained to the church where he was christened he was told to contact the European Court of Human Rights.

How, in any way, is sharing your faith with your children child abuse? Yes, we get it, you don’t go to church anymore, but how has this scarred you for life? Now I’m personally against child baptism, but that’s beside the point. This just trivializes actual abuse in a lame attempt to complain about what they wish hadn’t happened to them. Stuff you don’t like happens all the time. It’s called life, not abuse.

–

Popcrunch posted a list of creepy TV characters, which in retrospect I agree with (at least for the shows I watched). Although at the time I watched these shows, these were the characters I liked. Except the last one. He was always creepy to me.

–

And now on to things about me.

I want these. I can’t see paying $100+ for a pair of shoes, but I want them so hard it sort of hurts my heart.

I am still addicted to This Is Why You’re Fat, but I think we have a winner here.

I went to California last week, and posted some pictures to my new Flickr account. I’ll be posting some photos of the ocean within the next few days.

Also, comments make me a very happy person. A happy person indeed.

This Is Why You’re Fat is making me physically ill and sort of ashamed at the same time. Because, some of these things I would eat. And some of them I probably have. I sort of wonder if it’s a midwestern impulse to deep fat fry every food known to man, or if it exists in other areas.

Thanks to the site, however, I seem to have lost my appetite for the moment. Thanks!

–

This week in the school paper, I got to write a review of Franz Ferdinand’s latest album, Tonight. I liked it quite a lot. I really enjoy writing the reviews.

–

Today in class we were talking about the future of the newspaper industry, and paper publishing in general. Of course we started talking about the Kindle. The whole concept of a paperless book is somewhat appalling to me. I hate the idea of not being able to lend books to friends, or visit bookstores and browse. I understand the advantages, though, and especially studying journalism, I’m drawn to the idea that something like this could save the newspaper industry. Even if the newspapers were distributed for free, the advertising would be similar to what’s in a paper, and I imagine the target readership would align with the advertisers desires: young, willing to try new things, interest in technology, etc.

My professor said that the cost of a subscription to a newspaper barely covers the cost of the paper itself, so a free electronic paper, or one that costs some sort of minimal amount, does not seem that far-fetched to me. Especially considering the same papers are all free on the internet.
